VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

As an IYV volunteer, you will find your experiences rewarding. Here you would donate your time, skills and most of all your thoughts that you care. You would help individuals, organizations and causes and in return you would carry back home the joy of giving… a sense of doing something really worthwhile... a feeling of being accepted and valued... interesting and challenging experiences... a chance to take on new responsibilities ... an opportunity to recognise your potential and further develop your skills.

As an IYV volunteer, you'll be able to interact with the people at the grassroots level, along with local youth and volunteers who are already engaged in projects. Your professional and educational abilities will be put into full use to provide you the fulfilling challenge you've been seeking for such a long time. You can choose your volunteering projects at the location of your choice.

Volunteer Opportunities

The IYV volunteer would have opportunities available in the following areas:

  • Teaching

  • Child Care

  • Environmental Awareness

  • Health Education

  • Community service

  • Teaching

IYV volunteer would have number of teaching opportunities in urban and rural schools. Generally the students would be from Junior sections, 6-9 years age group. The most suitable subjects would be English, Art & Craft, Music & Dance. A regular teacher of the school would support the IYV volunteer initially and would provide the curriculum. Volunteers would be required to be in school for 6 hours daily for five-days a week. The time schedule may vary from one school to another. Generally weekly holidays are Saturday & Sunday. Non formal teaching of English is also available in youth clubs or women’s group for 1 to 2 hours a day.

    Child care:

Share your love and knowledge with the children, who are deprived of it. Be a brother or sister to the children living in orphanage and help them in their daily routine, make them practice good habits and educate them about how to live confidently and independently. It gives you an opportunity to mould these children as responsible and confident citizens. It all depends on how you would influence them and form an emotional bondage with them. The children would be mostly between the age of four to fifteen.

    Environmental Awareness program:

Another befitting area for IYV volunteer, who is enthusiastic and have a passion to change things for better. This program offers a good opportunity to put to use various skills of volunteers for the common good of the rural people. At the same time you would expose to and have a chance to learn several interesting new things. A basic understanding of recycling and environmental issues would help you to contribute well. Volunteers would stay and work in a rural village. Projects like planting and sampling, bee-keeping, organic farming, compost bins, energy efficiency, waste management, nutrition and agricultural improvements would be available. Volunteers would receive assistance from local community workers. The main aim of the program is to encourage the rural population to pursue an eco-friendly life style.

    Health Education:

This project is best suitable for those IYV volunteers who have the knowledge and skills related to Health Education. The job requires teaching issues related to health to rural school children for about 1 or 2 hours daily in a six-day week. You would also work with youth clubs or a women's group in the community to educate them about Health and Sanitation. You would also provide first aid training to uneducated rural people.

    Community Service:

This programme offers an opportunity to serve the community as a whole. Communities would be mostly located in sub-urban or rural areas. The services would include health, hygiene, sanitation, education and overall development of the community. This would require a total involvement of the volunteer with the community people, participation in their local festivals and appreciation of their culture. It might require involvement in painting, building and repair works.
