RESOURCE CENTRE

Since Research and Training on a variety of topics concerning youth is one of the objectives of Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, we set up a National Resource Centre on Youth (NRCY) to facilitate and support these activities and also to help other developmental workers and organizations across the country in providing various kinds of specialized information.

NRCY is actively supporting the organisation from its very inception. It is always equipped to cater to the changing needs of the organization as well as its partners and is being developed as a specialized resource centre on youth. It has an impressive collection of more than 10,000 books in English and 1000 books in Hindi on various aspects of youth and social work. The same is being updated with new books of relevance from time to time. Besides subscribing to 46 important journals / magazines on relevant issues, it also receives over 100 complimentary publications e.g. newsletters, annual reports and conference proceedings of various ministries, NGOs and international organizations.

NRCY is fully computerized making for quick and easy retrieval of information. It has linkages with other libraries in Delhi and has a resource sharing and Inter Library Loan facility through Developing Library Network (DELNET), a Delhi-based network of libraries for promoting resource-sharing activities among Indian libraries. This gives research scholars an easy and quick access to the required information available in other libraries. Its Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is accessible through DELNET. The member organizations of DELNET can search the library database online. The plan is to make the library database and our publications online through our own website for easy and free access to all. The NRCY is also maintaining a 'Computerised Database of Articles' on youth and other social issues and brings out a half yearly indexing bulletin called Infoshare.

The Centre is open to all visitors, students, research scholars, volunteers and others. It provides a variety of specialized services to individuals and organizations involved in research and training on youth.

FACILITIES & SERVICES

The Centre provides the following services on regular basis.

Current Awareness Service

A computerized database of periodical articles, newspaper clippings, books, conference proceedings and reports on various issues related to youth and social problems is being developed and the information is being disseminated through its quarterly publication ‘InfoShare: Publication of National Resource Centre on Youth’ to various academic and research institutions across the country. This helps in keeping them abreast of current information. The second part of this publication called InfoNet provides abstracts along with citations of information available on Internet on a particular topic. It also contains a ‘Union Catalogue of Books’ on a chosen subject available in this Centre and other libraries of Delhi to help research scholars and academics working on the topic.

The New Arrival List is made available through our quarterly newsletter.

Bibliographical/Documentation Service

The Centre prepares thematic bibliographies on various topics on demand and also on routine basis e.g. Indian Youth in Print, NGOs – A Select Bibliography etc.

It has also gathered various schemes of different ministries, organizations and the information is made available in the form of booklets on a very nominal payment. The same is also disseminated through our quarterly newsletter.
