AGRO-BASED ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR YOUNG FARMERS

The emerging economic scenario of the country has made us all realize that it is important to work for the improvement of agricultural sector, which is still a source of livelihood for nearly 70% of Indian population.

Keeping this in mind, Vishwa Yuvak Kendra has decided to undertake Agro-based Entrepreneurship Development Programmes so that more and more youth could be involved and motivated to undertake Agro-based entrepreneurship.

Objectives of the programme:
  • To create awareness among the farmers especially young farmers about technological breakthrough in agriculture– traditional/nontraditional crops with new variety and new methods.

  • To help create opportunities for farmers to earn more income and thus enabling them gain self-confidence and live a meaningful life which will reduce suicide among the farmers.

  • To make linkages between farmers and several government department, agriculture institutions/departments, banks and progressive farmers so that they get necessary information and support to do farming on commercial basis.

  • Information Technology related inputs wherever needed.

  • To give training to cope up with stress and strain of crop failure or any other farming problem.

  • Contents
  • Information about nontraditional crops.

  • Hybrid variety of crops for more production that brings more income.

  • Bio-fertilisers – its preparation and use.

  • Bio-pesticides and crop management.

  • Importance of bio-gas and its use.

  • Information about improved seeds.

  • Organic farming.

  • Earning more income through cultivation of fruits, vegetables, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants.

  • Bee keeping, animal husbandry, poultry farming and fish cultivation.

  • Promotion of small scale agro-based industries.

  • Various government schemes for the development of farmers.

  • Crop insurance.

  • Area:   

    The most backward area of the state will be selected for the programme.

    Participants:   

    will be young farmers from the selected geographical areas only. They would be in the age-group of 20 – 40 years numbering 40 – 50.

    Collaborative organizations/Resource persons:   

    Agriculture College/ University, Block Agriculture Extension Department, Progressive Farmers, Bank, District Industry Centre, NABARD, Khadi & Village Industries Board and other appropriate organizations would be collaborative organizations and resource persons are to be invited from these organizations as per the requirement of the programme.

    Follow-up team:   

    Consisting of representatives from local organization, panchayat, school or any other institutions, follow up team would be formed. The team will closely watch and follow-up the progress of the participants. The progress will be reviewed after 6 – 9 months of the training programme.

    Agro-based Entrepreneurship training programme would be a result oriented activity so that this will encourage other farmers of the adjoining areas to take initiatives and adopt various alternative methods to earn more income through agriculture.

    So far VYK has covered Maharashtra, Gujarat, Orissa, Bihar, Chattishgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. Gradually all the states will be covered under the programme.
