| Abstract: :: The present study has been undertaken in National Capital Region of Delhi to examine the Role of Technology for the Elderly Persons. The study is sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology, Science and Society Division, Government of India, with the objectives to explore the possibility of growing use of technology among the elderly persons. The study also explored the vast scope of Science and technology intervention for the welfare of the Elderly persons in the country, so that technologies are made accessible, affordable and are focused on bridging the existing gaps. The study concluded that the respondents had knowledge about mobile, cable TV, washing machine, blood pressure measuring kits, room heater and water cooler. The respondents were from the urban settings, therefore they had knowledge about beneficial effects of technologies and their uses. The maximum number of the respondents preferred use of new technologies especially available for health care. The sample size of this study was 250 drawn mostly from various section of society. The methodology adopted for this inquiry includes open-ended questionnaire, focus group discussion and examination of few case studies. The issues covered under this study incorporates correlation between educational level and use of technology, opinion of elderly persons about efficacy of technology to improve quality of life and capability of advance communication technology to overcome the anxiety of loveliness in the life of elderly persons. | |
