| Abstract: :: The paper examines the lifestyle of Mizo youth. It focuses on the theoretical perspective of life style, concept of youth, Mizo tribes, impact of westernisation and mass media exposure on the youth. It traces out the pattern of changes in the youth with reference to food habits, dressing pattern, saving and spending habits, listening to music, smoking, drinking and consumption of drugs. Westernization, urbanization and other processes play a significant role in influencing changes in the lifestyle, thought process, culture, occupation, behaviour pattern and aspirations of youth. After the introduction of Christianity by the missionaries, especially in the north east of India, acculturation, assimilation and absorption of western lifestyle have occurred. Moreover, media exposure also plays a vital role in this regard since the youth are exposed to influence from television, radio, newspapers and magazines as well as the exposure through access to internet. These two factors are predominantly responsible for changing pattern of youth life style. Thus, this paper helps to understand the life style of Mizo youth as well as the social work intervention to the young people. | |
