|
| |
Karnataka, 3-7 May 2010
|
|
An Agro-based Entrepreneurship
Development Programme was
organised at Krishi Vigyan Kendra,
District Gulbarga, Karnataka, from
3-7 May 2010 in collaboration
with the Bharatiya Agro Industries
Foundation (BAIF), Institute
for Rural Development, Karnataka
(BIRD-K).
The major crops grown in the
district are red gram, green gram,
black gram, groundnut, sunflower,
jowar and bajra during kharif and
rabi jowar, Bengal gram, safflower,
cotton, wheat, paddy during rabi.
Since the pulses occupy the majority
of the area in the district it is known
as the ‘Pulse Bowl of Karnataka’.
As the farmers are facing many
constraints in producing the crops
profitably, there is a wide scope
for generating awareness about
scientific technology transfer
for improving production
and productivity.
A total of 34 farmers participated
in the training programme.
The training content typically
incorporated the existing needs and
problems of the farmers for making
a positive impact in their
production and profitability trends.

Bihar, 15-19 May 2010
|
In Bihar, an Agro-based
Entrepreneurship Development
Programme for young farmers was
organised in collaboration with Lok
Kalyan Samiti, at the community
training centre, Chakai, Jamui
District, from 15-19 May 2010 with
the support of people from
youth groups, PRI members,
academicians, social activists and
local government officials.
The training included sharing
information, motivating young
farmers to adopt new methods
and technologies in the field of
agriculture. Chakai is a place where
there is ample scope for farming but
due to a lack of resources and right
knowledge, the outcome is not
visible. Moreover, this effort was not
only a matter of congregating
farmers of the locality but also
enabling people from different
streams of society to be involved and
be aware of the role they should
provide to society—to pursue a
development process.

Jharkhand, 16-20 May 2010
|
Jharkhand is one of the newlyformed
states in the country. The
requirements of fruits, vegetables,
and flowers, medicinal and aromatic
plants are met by the local
production of the state and these
items are even exported to the
deficient areas.
Favourable agro-climatic
conditions allow round-the-year
production of different varieties and
‘off-season’ vegetables (such as
brinjal, cabbage, cauliflower,
ladyfinger, onion, pea, potato,
pumpkin, mushroom, capsicum and
green chilly) and fruits (mango,
leechi, guava, banana, papaya,
lemon, jackfruit, amla and others).
The state is blessed with vast
resources for establishing food
processing units including those of
fruit and vegetable preservation,
milk and meat preservation and for
processing of minor forest produce.
The economic development of
Jharkhand state will be possible
only if agricultural and rural
development takes place on a
sustainable basis with capacity
building being the focal point for
the endeavour.
The resources here are not
utilised properly and the farmers
lack knowledge and skills of modern
farming. Taking these into account,
Vishwa Yuvak Kendra organised an
Agro-based Entrepreneurship
Development Programme for young
farmers in collaboration with Lok
Kalyan Samiti from 16-20 May 2010 at Jasidih, Jharkhand.
