Dr. J.P. Sharma, Head–Agriculture
Extension from the Indian
Agricultural Research Institute, spoke
on the occasion. He suggested some
measures on how farmers can make
agriculture a profitable venture:
1. Proper planning of type of crops
and time of sowing so that
they harvest early and thus get
competitive prices
2. Selection of good seeds
3. Rearing of cattle of good breed
4. Value addition to their products to
get competitive prices
5. Cooperative marketing of
the products
Innovative farmers Jagdeesh Pareek
and Ishwar Singh Kundu, awardees
from Rajasthan and Haryana,
respectively, shared their valuable
experiences. Both of them prescribed
organic farming as it maintains the
health of the soil and gives a standard
production, year after year.
Dr. Y.R. Meena, Additional
Commissioner (Agro Extension),
Ministry of Agriculture, Government
of India, shared with the participants
various government schemes for
farmers. He talked about ATMA
(Agricultural Technology Management
Agency), National Horticulture
Mission, Kisan Call Centre, National
Food Security Mission and some other
schemes. He appealed to the farmers
that they should take advantage of
these schemes.
Shishir Bajaj, Managing Trustee
and Rajat Kumar Narain, Chairman,
Indian Youth Centres Trust, expressed
their satisfaction on the great impact
of the Agro-based Entrepreneurship
Development Programmes, organised
by Vishwa Yuvak Kendra in 16 states
across the country. Both of them
appealed to the farmers that they must
share their new learning with other
farmers in their areas so that others
can also benefit. They should work as
agents of change.
